The CDO girls golf team opened the 2014 season with a win over a shorthanded Amphi squad. The Panthers had just two golfers, while the Dorados were able to field a full team despite one of their top players skipping the season to focus on academics.
Amphi’s Jessica Williams and CDO’s Sydney Bradford tied for individual honors, both shooting 44’s at the El Rio course. Bradford got out strong with a par on the first hle and added a birdie on four. Williams had pars on five and seven which allowed her to get even with Bradford.
Hannah May shot a 44 thanks to three pars over the first four holes, while Bethany Vos and Robyn Young each shot 51s. Vos shot par over her first two holes, but did not break even again.
Cassidy Granillo shot a 77 as the Panthers’ only other golfer.
The Dorados will be without standout Morgan Messick. The senior committed to play golf at Northern Arizona and has decided to forgo the high school senior to focus on academics and will likely play junior golf events when they fit her schedule. Messick has finished in the top-four at state in her first three seasons, including a second place finish as a sophomore.
