The Pusch Ridge baseball team closed out the 2014 regular season with an 8-3 win over St. Gregory on Tuesday afternoon.
The visiting Lions had their bats working at the start. They scored three in the top of the first and after St. Gregory answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, they added two more in the second to go up 5-2.
Pusch Ridge led 6-2 heading into the final inning and added two more in the top of the seventh. St. Gregory managed only a single run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jacob Frithsen earned the win. He pitched all seven innings, scattering four hits, striking out seven. All three runs were unearned. He also scored twice for the Lions.
The Lions only mustered seven hits but benefitted from four errors, six hit batters and seven walks. Ryan Penny had two hits on the day, the only Pusch Ridge player with multiple hits.
The Lions finish the season at 23-4 overall, and 16-2 in regular season games and are expected to earn the No. 2 seed in the Division IV state baseball playoffs.
