Both the Catalina Foothills baseball and softball teams hosted Casa Grande on Wednesday night, with mixed results. The baseball team won in decisive fashion, while the softball team lost a close contest.
The Falcon boys snapped a two-game losing streak with their 13-3 win over the Cougars. The win came at a good time for Foothills who dropped to No. 19 in the Division II state rankings following those two losses.
The win, in their lone game of the week, improves them to 10-4 and they head into next week’s pivotal three-game schedule with some confidence. Although the Falcons would be in the playoffs if the season ended today, there is a lot of room to move up or down the rankings with four games to play over the next two weeks.
The softball team continued their tough sledding losing a tight one 7-6 to Casa Grande. It is the 12th straight loss for the Falcons, and the second straight by a single run. The Falcons are just 1-12 in regular season games and 5-18 overall.
It was the third straight win for the Cougars.
It is the lone game for the Falcons who return to action on April 23 with a game against Vista Grande.
