Global Football regrets to announce that the planned visit this August of Mountain View High School to Dublin to take part in the Global Ireland Football Tournament (GIFT) 2014 has been cancelled.

Due to the withdrawal of the Lions’ provisional opponent for the game, it has not been possible to secure opposition that meets the requirements of an Arizona high school playing a regular season game overseas.

“We are all disappointed that the Mountain View High student athletes and community will not be able to participate in the GIFT 2014 to be held in Dublin this August,” said Global Football President Patrick Steenberge.  “Despite our best efforts, we were not able to find another American high school team willing to take on this challenge and play Mountain View.  When the original opponent changed their minds and cancelled in January, it was simply too late for another school to take on such a project.  We now will feature two Pennsylvania schools which have been on our schedule for about a year now.

“I want to thank Coach [Bam] McRae and all at Mountain View, and Tucson, for having the vision and commitment to plan this opportunity for their student athletes.  It is a shame it cannot happen this year for them, and I hope we will have the chance to work together again as these are very dedicated coaches, administrators and parents.”

Mountain View Athletic Director Todd Garelick said: “Naturally we are disappointed that our group will not be able to travel to Ireland to participate in this event, but we appreciate that unforeseen circumstances prevented the overseas visit from happening. ”

Mountain View football head coach Bam McRae said: “I am disappointed that our football team will not have an opportunity to showcase its talents overseas and to take part in this event.  We will have to rebound and come back stronger for next season, turning adversity into something positive.”
