Falcons, Nighthawks cruise, Lions fall

Both the Catalina Foothills and Ironwood Ridge girls tennis teams had an easy go of things in the first round of the Division II team tennis tournament. Both squads won 5-0 and lost a total of nine games over the course of their two matches.

Both Noelle Karp and Angelica Anderson  won their matches 6-0, 6-0 for the Falcons, while the Nighthawks’ Kelsey Brown also won her match 6-0, 6-0.

The No. 2 Falcons will next host No. 7 Prescott on Tuesday, while Ironwood Ridge will travel to Lake Havasu. If both were to win, they would meet in the state semi-finals on May  up in the Phoenix area.

Prescott beat Rincon 5-1, while Lake Havasu beat Douglas 5-1 as well.

The Pusch Ridge girls fell 5-0 to No. 3 Buckeye Union  in the Division IV state tournament, ending the Lions’ season.
