Some 260 residents of Oro Valley have saved more than $4,800 through use of a prescription drug discount card that remains available.

In July 2009, the Town of Oro Valley joined with the National League of Cities to bring the discount program to the community. Average savings have been near 18 percent.

There is no cost for the cards, and no restrictions based on the resident's age, income level, or existing health coverage, a release said. The card can be used when purchasing prescription drugs at many pharmacies around the town, as well as at more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies across the country. "Simply show the card when purchasing medication to receive the discount," a release said.

The card requires no enrollment card nor membership fee. People may use the cards anytime a prescription is not covered by insurance.

"The discount price obtained with the card is not always the lowest price; please check with your pharmacy for prescription pricing," the release said.

The cards can be obtained at Oro Valley Town Hall, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive; or the Oro Valley Public Library, 1305 W. Naranja Drive.

The program was made possible by the town's membership with the NLC, with no cost to the town. For more information visit www.orovalleyaz.gov or www.nlc.org.
