On April 17 around 3:30 p.m., Pima County Sheriff Department deputies responded to a report of a house fire in the 3800 Block of East Benson Highway.

Deputy Shawn Degan was the first responder on scene and found a mobile home fully engulfed on fire.

Once he ensured that the residents of that mobile home were away from the fire, he immediately began evacuating the surrounding homes.

A tree caught on fire, which was close to a neighboring home. Smoke began filling the second mobile home and Deputy Degan took immediate action to save the residents still inside who could not get out on their own.

Deputy Degan was able to get the two residents out of the second mobile home and even saved several tanks of oxygen which they were using. Their home incurred a 50% loss from the fire and the original mobile home where the fire started, was a total loss.

Thanks to the life-saving efforts of Deputy Degan, the residents, a 65-year-old female and a 58-year-old, male are alive today and did not suffer any major injuries from the fire.
