On Sept. 28, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department received a report of threats made by a 14-year-old freshman student. Deputies learned that the student had stated he would dress up as a serial killer on Halloween.

When asked by another student if he would kill her and her friend he only said, “That question remains unanswered.” Other students overheard a conversation in which the suspect student was involved and the phrase “You are all going to die” was used. Several students and their parents voiced their fears and concerns.

On Oct. 10, the student was paper referred to the Juvenile Court for a charge of Threats and Intimidation. He was also ordered by his school to refrain from this type of suspicious behavior.

On Oct. 26, the suspect student was observed by a teacher accessing a website that portrayed a young, unthreatening boy who went on a shooting rampage at his school and killed all of the students. Continued concerns among the student body and parents caused the principal of the school to publish a letter to parents on Oct. 29, to advise them of the current status. As this became a serious disruption and disturbance for the school, detectives followed up with the suspect and his parents last night. He was taken into custody on a felony charge of Interfering With an Educational Institution.

The Sheriff’s Department, in cooperation with Tucson Unified School District (TUSD), is working on additional security measures for this Halloween Day at Sabino High School in order to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff.
