The Arizona Department of Public Safety is asking for help finding a man who it says assaulted a Highway Patrol officer early on Jan. 1 in the Phoenix area.

According to the DPS, Rafael Reyna III allegedly hit the officer multiple times in the face as the officer tried to arrest him on suspicion of DUI after a traffic stop on US 60 at about 2:45 a.m.

The officer was hospitalized for his injuries and is recovering at home.

After the alleged assault, Reyna fled the scene with one handcuff remaining on his left wrist. The vehicle he used was recovered later.

Reyna, 25, is described as 5'7", 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has multiple tattoos, including many on his face. According to the DPS, Reyna is a convicted felon and has a history of violence towards law enforcement.

The United States Marshal Service, Silent Witness, Fraternal Order of Police and the Arizona Highway Patrol Association are offering a reward of at least $10,000 for information leading to Reyna's arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information of his whereabouts is urged to contact the Arizona Department of Public Safety or Silent Witness.
