UPDATE: Teenager with non-functioning weapon taken into custody at James D. Kriegh Park

The investigation revealed that the teenage suspect pointed the rifle at a female in the area as well as passing cars.

The suspect has been charged with the following: Aggravated Assault (F3), Endangerment (M1), Criminal Nuisance (M3), Threats and Intimidation (M1), and Disorderly Conduct (M1). The suspect was booked into Pima County Juvenile Court.

From 11:40 a.m. today:

On April 15, at about 8 a.m., the Oro Valley Police Department School Resource Officers and Patrol Officers responded to James D. Kriegh Park, 23 W. Calle Concordia, in response to a report of a man with a gun.

Officers encountered a teenager with a rifle. Witnesses said that the teenager was pointing the rifle at cars in the area.

The teenager was taken into custody without incident within minutes of the call being reported, and charges are pending. The rifle was later found to be a non-functioning weapon.

The teenager is a Canyon Del Oro High School student, and OVPD is working in conjunction with Amphitheater School District officials on the investigation.
