On August 20, at 9:10 a.m., Foothills District deputies responded to the Legacy Traditional School, located at 3500 West Cortaro Farms Road, in response to a missing child.
Paisley Gabrielle Fernandez’s mother dropped her off at the back gate of the school at 7:25 a.m. When school began and attendance was taken, Paisley was listed as not being present.
Paisley’s mother was contacted about the absence and she confirmed her daughter should have been at school. The school was placed on lock down and the staff searched for Paisley prior to contacting the Sheriff’s Department. When deputies arrived, they immediately began a coordinated search of the school and surrounding areas while other resources were contacted.
The Sheriff’s Air Unit, Search and Rescue Unit, Motor Unit, Sheriff’s Auxiliary volunteers, all available detectives, and deputies from other districts were called to assist. Additionally, the Southern Arizona Rescue Association volunteers, Mounted Posse Search and Rescue volunteers, and Northwest Fire District personnel were contacted to help in the search. The Sheriff’s Department also advised the surrounding law enforcement agencies of the missing child.
At 10:46 a.m., Sheriff’s Department personnel were advised Paisley was located on school grounds unharmed and was reunited with her family. The Sheriff’s Department would like to thank everyone who helped in locating Paisley.
