On April 15, at about 8 a.m., the Oro Valley Police Department School Resource Officers and Patrol Officers responded to James D. Kriegh Park, 23 W. Calle Concordia, in response to a report of a man with a gun.

Officers encountered a teenager with a rifle. Witnesses said that the teenager was pointing the rifle at cars in the area.

The teenager was taken into custody without incident within minutes of the call being reported, and charges are pending. The rifle was later found to be a non-functioning weapon.

The teenager is a Canyon Del Oro High School student, and OVPD is working in conjunction with Amphitheater School District officials on the investigation.
