As January brings promises of health, fitness and enrichment opportunities for the New Year, residents age 55 and better of Oro Valley and Tucson are invited to attend a Wellness Extravaganza and Health Fair at Splendido, 13500 North Rancho Vistoso Boulevard, on Tuesday, Jan. 22. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited and reservations are required for those wishing to participate. Interested guests should RSVP to 878-2630.
The day will kick off with a morning Health Fair between 8 a.m. and 11a.m. The fair will feature more than 40 vendors in areas such as home health, dentistry, nutrition, skin care, eye and ear health, chiropractic, massage, body fat composition, blood draws for blood chemistry, and more.
“This is an excellent way for local residents to get comprehensive health information, all in one place,” said Splendido’s Life Enrichment Manager Beth Ernst. “We love providing a forum for helping people age well, and it’s also a great opportunity for local residents who might like to learn more, to visit Splendido and see us in action.”
In addition to the health fair, there will be morning and afternoon presentations on a range of topics taught by local health and fitness experts, including members of the Splendido team.
Those wishing to attend can choose from a selection of learning sessions and demonstrations on wellness, including topics such as living with visual impairment, sleep disorders, diabetes, how to be your own health advocate, continuous CPR, strokes and the best prevention methods, and other topics. There are three, morning presentation times offered at 9:30, 10:30 and, 11:30 a.m. and another session in the afternoon at 2:15 p.m.
The day will also include several exercise classes to get the blood pumping, hosted in Splendido’s 10,000-square-foot fitness center, including Zumba, Tai Chi, Gentle Yoga, or a Rockin’ Water class in Splendido’s beautiful 20-meter, indoor saltwater pool.
Healthy Fare for All
Splendido’s executive chef, Jeremy Imes, will be performing cooking demonstrations throughout the day and recipes will be provided for anyone who might like to try re-creating these easy, healthy options at home.
Guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary light breakfast and healthy snacks, and a nutritious “grab and go” lunch of sandwiches, wraps, fruit, healthy chips and cookies will be served at 12:15 p.m., with a presentation by motivational speaker and comedienne, Joann Contorno at 1 p.m.
Splendido’s resort-style living offers a wide variety of activities and amenities for adults 55 and better, including an 18-hole putting course, art studio, fitness center and spa, and movie theater. If health care needs arise, there is access via the on-site health care center, which provides a range of services including short-term stays, assisted living, memory support and rehabilitation.
