Jared Loughner, who pleaded guilty to the shooting rampage at Safeway on Ina Road in January 2011, showed little emotion Thursday morning as victims of the attack spoke sometimes directly to him.

A federal judge in Tucson sentence Loughner to seven life sentences, which includes one for the attempted assassination of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, plus an additional 140 years.

With no possibility of parole, Loughner will spend the rest of his life in prison. The judge recommended he remain at the facility in Missouri, where he has been forcibly medicated since the Jan. 8 shooting in 2011 where six people were killed and 13 were injured, including Giffords.

With Giffords standing by his side, her husband, Mark Kelly, spoke during the hearing.

Kelly said while Loughner put a bullet in his wife's head, he did not "kill her spirit."
