Pets rock. And the Humane Society of Southern Arizona wants to celebrate this message with a rockin’ event on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Marana’s Crossroads at Silverbell Park.

The Pet Rock Family Concert, presented in partnership with the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance, will feature live music, delicious food, handmade crafts, animal-themed exhibits and kids’ activities.

“We wanted to organize a fundraiser to benefit the education programs that we offer,” said Meredith Moore-Bode, community outreach manager for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

HSSA offers free educational programs in area schools, where students learn about the importance of animal compassion and responsibility, spaying and neutering and the many services provided by the HSSA.

The musical event features talented performers in a variety of genres, from dance to folk and hip hop to reggae.

The concert will kick off with a dance performance by Kids Unlimited and rock, blues and country favorites from the Jim Howell Band. Three genres of folk music will entertain event-goers with music from Amber Norgaard (folk rock), Cinder Bridge (bluesy folk) and Leila Rose Lopez (alternative folk).

The closing performances include hip-hop from Shaun Harris, alternative rock from Alisha Peru and reggae from Spirit Familia.

Kids can participate in activities throughout the park, with jugglers, face painting, arts and crafts, jumping castles and treats.

The outdoor park setting allows the whole family to enjoy the event, including your furry family members.

Don’t have a pet? The HSSA will have its Waggin’ Train full of adoptable animals on site.

Admission is $5; children 10 and under are admitted free. Proceeds will benefit the HSSA and SAACA arts and education programs.
