Sun City Vistoso is a place full of talented artists and craftsmen, from painters to woodworkers to jewelry makers.

More than 90 of them are gathering at the large, sheltered Social Hall at Sun City Vistoso this Saturday, Oct. 3, to show what they can do in the Sun City Vistoso Arts and Crafts Festival.

Kathy Hrdy, secretary of the Gift Shop of Sun City, said this show is unique. In recent years, the gift shop has hosted courtyard sales with the work of artists who consign with it. "Maybe the concept was different," Hrdy said. This time, "everyone who lives in Sun City was welcome to come and be part of this show."

The artists are turning out. Guests can see the clay sculptures of Lori Nalewicki, Keith Staley's silversmithing and jewelry, Joyce Melchi's stained glass kachinas, Buzz Dolsberry's acclaimed paintings, and Elizabeth Stewart's quilts and garments, among many.

They're all residents of Sun City Vistoso, and the show includes paintings, photography, woodworking, rug hooking pottery, stained glass, quilts, fine jewelry and much more.

People might find things they want for themselves, as well as gift possibilities for weddings, birthdays, and the upcoming holidays. There are practical gifts, too, items like greeting cards, salad bowls, pot holders, doll clothes and special bags for cooking potatoes in the microwave.

Hrdy is thrilled by the talent. "Everybody is really excited about it," Hrdy said. "We expect a crowd if all of our neighbors come."

The Sun City Vistoso Café, operated by manager Joe Byron, is offering a 10 percent break with coupon off lunch. "They'll have a special that day," Hrdy said. Byron is famous for his soups and chilis.

Donations are being accepted for the Catalina Food Bank, with a container outside for canned goods and non-perishable items.

Miss Pima County is giving a free raffle ticket for a big basket of cosmetics.
