Special to The Explorer

Kings from afar, shepherds and angels take an interactive, family-friendly Christmas journey through ancient Bethlehem at a Northwest church Dec. 9 and 10.

“Walk To Bethlehem” is being presented at Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church, 3001 E. Miravista Lane off North Oracle Road.

Guided tours begin every 15 minutes from 6:30 through 8 p.m., and last approximately 25 minutes. Admission and parking are free.

The evening’s production is created by church and community volunteers who offer their time, talent and creativity “to reproduce an authentic experience surrounding the night Christ was born,” a release said. Complete with live animals, the set design and costumed actors “thrust visitors back in time centuries’ past. Walk among village shops, meet and mingle with town residents as they go about daily life, and encounter Roman soldiers.”

Pre- and post-tour activities include refreshments, photographs and crafts for children.

“This year we are expanding and building a more durable, permanent set to ensure ‘Walk To Bethlehem’ becomes a regular Christmas tradition for residents throughout Tucson and outlying areas,” said the Rev. Matthew Colby, Vista de la Montaña associate pastor and chairman of the event.

“Walk to Bethlehem” was established in 2006, and has seen steady increases in attendance. It is wheelchair accessible, and bus parking is available.
