Father of famous Mata Ortiz pottery visits Northwest
Courtesy of the artist, Juan Quezada achieved fame in the late-1970s after an American anthropologist discovered his high-quality pottery, which was based on ancient shards found near his Mexican village of Mata Ortiz.
Courtesy of Arizona State Museum, Casas Grandes pottery, the inspiration for Juan Quezada's early work, often incorporated likenesses of animals. The Arizona State Museum houses one of the largest collections in the United States of Casas Grandes pottery.
