The finals of the Second Annual Lois Trester Piano Competition will take place on Monday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Crowder Hall in the University of Arizona’s School of Music Building. The competition awards more than $4,000 in prizes to students currently enrolled as piano majors at the University of Arizona.

The event is open to the public. Spectator admission is free.

This year’s competition will award a new prize to the most promising undergraduate pianist.

Lois Trester was a beloved Tucson piano teacher who passed away a few years ago. William Wolfe funded this scholarship in her name as a way of remembering her immense contribution to the Tucson Music Teachers Association and Tucson’s local piano community.

The winners of the 2010 competition were: first place and audience prize, Joo Young Oh, a student of Rex Woods; second place, Bokyung Park, a student of Tannis Gibson; third place, Dylan Marney, a student of John Milbauer; fourth place, Kyung Lee, a student of Tannis Gibson; and alternate, Yuri Chayama, a student of Paula Fan.
