Sun City Vistoso holds its community-wide art and crafts fair this Saturday, Oct. 2, with more than 70 artists and designers showing their works.

The Arts and Crafts Festival 2010 runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sun City Vistoso Mountain Vista Recreation Center, 1495 E. Rancho Vistoso in Oro Valley. Much of the sprawling building will be filled with art, crafts and people.

"That's a comfortable fit," said volunteer Kathy Hrdy, co-chairing the show with Don Jovag.

All participants are residents of Sun City Vistoso. They have paintings, photography, woodworking, pottery, stained glass, fine jewelry and more to show and sell. Many of the artists and crafts people have transitioned from the demands of a career to more creative and expressive media. Others use technology as a springboard to creativity. They've been working steadily on their creations; the first registration date for this year's show was in February.

"I'm sure they've been working for months," said Hrdy, a volunteer with the sponsoring Sun City Vistoso Gift Shop.

Admission is free. Catalina Community Services is going to be accepting food donations. Many of the show's participants have donated art for a raffle. Demonstrations in silver casting, wood printing, overlay, carving of gourds and the art of knotting pearls are scheduled through the day.

From 9 into the morning, guests can buy pastries and beverages. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and beverage are on the afternoon menu.
