Details are finalized for Marana's annual Holiday Festival and Twinkle Light Parade, to be held this Saturday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Marana Municipal Complex.

"It's a small, intimate event for families," said Adelina Martin, events coordinator for the Marana Parks and Recreation Department.

Most of the activities – among them, tree lighting, the consumption of holiday treats, crafts, the parade and more – are centered in the courtyard of the municipal building.

At 4 p.m., just after introductions, Santa and Mrs. Claus enter Santa's corner in the courtyard, and kids can line up for a sit-down with North Pole guests. Santa and Mrs. Claus plan to attend for the duration of the event.

Martin expects 20 to 25 entries in this year's parade. It'll begin at 6:15 p.m. Saturday on Marana Main Street, near the Northwest Fire District building, move onto Civic Center and the roundabout, and head toward the visitors parking lot. Judges shall evaluate the entrants.

Entertainment is provided by the Thornydale Elementary School Songbirds, the Tucson Dance Academy, the Marana High School Chamber Singers, and the Marana Parks and Recreation Dance Artists.

There'll be hot chocolate and cookies, food vendors, and arts and crafts vendors offering that special little something for the holidays.

The mayor and council light the holiday tree at 7:30 p.m. It's in the courtyard now, and nearby trees and banisters are being wrapped in the holiday spirit, too.

Maranans are trying to "fill the bus" with new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Gifts are being accepted at the Holiday Festival and Twinkle Light Parade.
