Armstrong show to kick off concert series

Victoria Armstrong will be the featured performer in the first of the Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission’s monthly Women’s House Concert Series. The concert will take place on Saturday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at 240 N. Court Ave. in Tucson.

The first half of the evening will feature a local or touring woman performing artist followed by an intermission and a women’s open mic/songwriters and music jam circle until 10 p.m. The public is invited to bring their songs and acoustic instruments. Audiences of all genders and ages are welcome.

Council accepting nominations to honor humanities advocates for contributions

Nominations are being accepted now through Aug. 31 for the Dan Shilling Public Humanities Scholar Award.

Each year, the Arizona Humanities Council honors individuals, organizations or businesses for their contribution and advancement of the humanities. The award recognizes a humanities scholar who has distinguished him/herself by enhancing public understanding of the role that the humanities play in transforming lives and strengthening communities.

The award honors Shilling’s contributions as AHC’s executive director from March 1984 to December 2003.

The AHC board established the award to mark Schilling’s legacy, reflect the esteem in which he is held, and recognize his own respect for scholarship.
