Art market in Tucson Mall this weekend
A free, monthly summer art market opens in the cool of Tucson Mall this Saturday and Sunday, June 26-27.
The show, presented by the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance and General Growth Properties, runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the 4500 N. Oracle retail center. Children's activities and live music are part of the day.
"Project InSECT" kicks off the month's entertainment on Saturday, with talks and insect displays by James Huebing-Reitinger. This artist from Wisconsin will bring his insect-filled trunk to provide visual presentations of bug life. He'll discuss the importance of different insect species and their role in the ecosystem, throw in some comedy, display an extensive ant collection and follow up with body and face paintings.
"Artists will have a comfortable, well-traveled venue in which to display their work, an opportunity not previously available to them during the summer months," said Kate Marquez, SAACA executive director.
