Glamour and high fashion, infused with the sincerity of local community values, will charm the La Encantada courtyard on Saturday, May 7 for an evening of wining and dining.

“It’s a powerful night of collaboration,” said Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance Executive Director Kate Marquez. “We are raising money to keep arts programs alive, while benefiting  local business, schools and other non-profits.”

The third annual Passion for Fashion charity show for all ages will give audiences a chance to experience Tucson in a new light, as nonprofit organizations and well-respected community members share a mission with spas, resorts and designers to cultivate community from the roots.

Passion for Fashion separates itself from all of the other local fashion shows by incorporating families, business leaders and local advocates to represent their support for the arts in Southern Arizona.

The runway will be packed with children of all ages, parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers as well as pets from the Humane Society.

This year’s models include KOLD-TV news personnel Kayna Whitworth, Chuck George, Erin Jordan, Scott Kilbury and Joan Lee; American Idol finalist Crystal Stark, jazz vocalist Julie Ann Boos, KGUN9 news anchor Jennifer Waddell, and Tucson police commander Perry Tarrant.

SAACA will present the fashion show starting at 6 p.m. in the lower-level courtyard of the La Encantada shopping center.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona will also show dogs currently available for adoption, as pups strut down the runway among local celebrities and models and interact with the audience later in the show.

Ticket prices include wine, food from fine dining restaurants, goodie bags with coupons and giveaways from Tucson businesses, a first look at new summer and fall clothing lines from La Encantada, live musical entertainment and a local celebrity runway show.

Local salon and spa, Gadabout, will be styling the runway models’ hair, displaying fierce and creative styles with eye-catching hair designs mixed in with classic looks.

Tickets also include an exclusive opportunities to browse a silent auction, featuring excellent prices on items such as jewelry from Tiffany & Co., gift certificates to Tucson’s fine dining restaurants like Armitage and Azul, and season subscriptions to Arizona Theatre Company and Tucson Symphony Orchestra performances.

The auction will also provide discounts on vacation packages, including a trip to Southern California where vacationers can make their own surfboard and get lessons from a professional surfer, a vacation in Napa with wine tours and dining on the Napa railroad, and a family getaway to Disney World complete with airfare and park tickets.

All proceeds from the silent auction and the main event will go to school arts programs and keeping  community art events alive in the region.

Last year’s Passion for Fashion sold out, so advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended. Tickets start at $30 per person, but discounted packages are available for larger  groups.

“Most shows of this kind come with a high-ticket price, but we really wanted to make sure almost everyone could experience the community in this grass roots fashion,” Marquez said.
