Female folk singer Amber Norgaard performs this Friday, June 25 in the next installment of the 2010 La Encantada Summer Concert Series, presented by the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance.
Norgaard, raised on a farm in Iowa, has been described as "the love child of Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlan and Melissa Etheridge." After graduating from Creighton School of Nursing, Norgaard provided aid in communities from the Dominican Republic to indigenous tribes in Alaska.
Now inspired to use her music "as an instrument to heal, this world-traveled musician often has audience members stunned at how such a big voice and dynamic energy can come out of such a petite artist," a SAACA release said.
Norgaard performs from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the lower-level courtyard at La Encantada shopping center at Skyline Drive and Campbell Avenue.
Individual tickets cost $10 in advance and $11 the day of the show. Additionally, season tickets for the 11-concert series cost $88, offering savings of 20 percent.
Proceeds from the summer concert series benefit the many arts education programs and activities SAACA sponsors in local schools and at its many community festivals and programs.
Other acts this summer include Soulero, The Last Call Girls, Los Esquineros and Amilcar Guevara, the Jive Bombers, Heather Amelia Quartet, Jovert!, and Bill Ganz and his Western Band.
SAACA partners are La Encantada and the Tucson Federal Credit Union.
