More than 6,000 women in America enter menopause every day.

By 2015, the number of menopausal women worldwide is expected to reach 1.7 billion.

Despite the numbers, menopause "remains one of the most taboo and misunderstood of all natural occurrences facing women, with a tremendous amount of confusion and misinformation amongst the general public and medical community," according to the producers of "Hot Flash Havoc," a new documentary film being screened Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Fox Theatre Tucson.

The local showing is among the first in America. It has drawn large crowds where it has been shown.

"The reason for the excitement," executive producer Heidi Houston said, "is because for so long, women have been told conflicting things about how to deal with menopause." Hot Flash Havoc "humorously yet accurately portrays the process of menopause from recognized national experts in women's health," a release said.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The screening of Hot Flash Havoc, "a film of menopausal proportions," begins at 6. Experts answer questions at 7:30. "Mood swing libations" and "hot flash tidbits" are served at 8:15.

Tickets for the event are $20. They may be purchased at www.hotflashhavoc.net.

The Fox is located at 17 West Congress in the city.
