Students ages 13-17 are encouraged to participate in the Oro Valley Police Department Teen Academy, slated for June 22-24.

Students from Ironwood Ridge and Canyon del Oro high schools, Casas Christian School, Immaculate Heart, Pusch Ridge Academy, and Cross, Wilson and Coronado middle schools are particularly invited, a release said.

In the program "Understanding your police department," students can see Taser, SWAT team and driving under the influence demonstrations, watch the K-9 unit in action, process a crime scene and more.

The academy runs Monday-Wednesday, June 22-24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the training room at the Oro Valley police Department.

Space is limited. Pizza, snacks and beverages are included. It is all free.

For more information, contact officer Jodi Brackett at 229-2900 or officer Shawn Benjamin at 696-5577.
