Sexy vampires and tough cowboys give an upcoming fundraiser a bite.
To help provide student scholarships, the Tucson Advertising Federation Educational Foundation is hosting a screening of the film “Dead West” on Oct. 27 at The Tucson Fox Theatre, 17 W. Congress St. in downtown Tucson.
A networking mixer will take place starting at 5:30 p.m., and will include cocktails and finger foods. The movie will begin at 6:45 p.m.
Based on the industry’s decision to revamp westerns, the film’s lead character, Johnny Dust, played by actor Jasen Wade, no longer finds himself in the gun-slingin’ Old West. Instead, he’s struggling to survive blood-sucking vampires who threaten his western ways in what becomes the “Dead West.”
Tickets cost $30 for the mixer, movie and admission to a reception with the movie’s director and stars. Admission for the movie only is $15.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.aaftucson.org.
The action/thriller horror movie is based on the death of the movie western and rise of the horror genre. It was produced by longtime advertising agency veterans Doug Myers, Lisa Hilton and Faridah Bryant of Hilton & Myers Advertising.
Myers has been very active in American Advertising Federation Tucson, and is a past recipient of its Advertising Professional of the Year Award.
Selected “Best Feature-Length Motion Picture” at Indie Fest, USA, it was selected by both the Tucson Film & Music Festival and the Almeria Western Film Festival.
The movie also has had a successful release in the United Kingdom and Germany under the title “Cowboys and Vampires.” It is in negotiations for a major DVD release in the U.S.
The Tucson Advertising Federation Educational Foundation provides scholarships to marketing students at the University of Arizona, Pima Community College, Southwest University of Visual Arts and the Art Institute of Tucson.
