The TSO Pops! rolls out the red carpet just in time for Oscar weekend with A Night at the Oscars® Saturday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at the Tucson Music Hall. The 83rd Annual Academy Awards will be held Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
Guest conductor Lawrence Golan will be on the podium when the TSO Pops! performs a program of blockbuster, Oscar® award-winning film music. Audiences will hear their favorite hits from classic films such as “Titanic,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Gone with the Wind,” “Rocky,” “The Godfather,” “Chariots of Fire,” and “Dr. Zhivago,” plus a medley of Disney and John Williams greats and more.
The 2010-11 season marks the beginning of Lawrence Golan’s tenure as the Helen N. Jewett music director of the Yakima
This appointment comes on the heels of a highly successful four-year term as resident conductor of The Phoenix Symphony. Golan continues to guest conduct professional orchestras, opera and ballet companies in the United States and around the world.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Joseph Golan, former principal second violinist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lawrence Golan is also an accomplished violinist. He will be the featured soloist on the “Theme from Schindler’s List” on the TSO Pops! A Night at the Oscars® program.
