Baxter Black headlines first SB poetry, music gathering

A first-ever cowboy poetry and music gathering is being staged in SaddleBrooke on Saturday, Jan. 15, featuring cowboy humorist Baxter Black, cowboy singer Dave Stamey, poet Ross Knox and the Way Out West Trio.

Proceeds benefit the Tucson Troop Support Group.

There are two shows that Saturday, at 3 and 7 p.m. at the DesertView Performing Arts Center in SaddleBrooke. Tickets are $26 for either show, and $11 for a VIP reception with the performers at 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Mountain View ticket office, by phone at 825-2818 or on-line at www.dvpac.net.

Organizer Al Mollenkopf of SaddleBrooke is undertaking the shows as a first venture. He’s calling it Saddle Up in The Brooke.

Headliner Baxter Black, nationally recognized for his books, his appearances and his National Public Radio stint, lives in Benson. Ross Knox is another cowboy poet from up Benson way. Stamey is from Nipomo, Calif., and the Way Out West trio is Tucson-based.
