For the third consecutive year, the Knights of Pythias Lodge 9 has donated $1,000 for free swim lessons to the first 50 people to sign up at Picture Rocks Pool.

The Knights were established in 1864 as a charitable fraternal organization by an Act of Congress and Lodge 9, begun in 1884,  is the oldest continuously operating lodge in Arizona.

The check was delivered at a ceremony at Picture Rocks Fire Station No. 121 on May 24, coordinated by firefighter Billie Moon.

On hand were Past Supreme Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias Harris Breight, Lodge 9’s Don Appleton and Jim Raymond, Pima County Dept. of Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Recreation Supt. Joe Barr, Aquatics staff Jodi Layton and Grant Bourguet, lifeguard Kevin Faflik, Adam Bernal from Picture Rocks Community Center, with Adam, Jr., and firefighters Lane Young, Jorge Santiago, Ruben Bravo, Anthony Marasa and Capt. Chris Farmer.  Not shown because they were taking pictures were Kathy Breight, Ann Appleton and Mary Ann Raymond.
