A year ago, Edward Jones advisers collected enough food to feed 1,100 families in greater Tucson.
This year, the investments company wants to at least triple that number when it collects food and serves free breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Edward Jones adviser Ken Blanchard of Oro Valley is the coordinator for the "10,000 Pounds of Food Drive," to be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from 8 a.m. to noon. That day, 16 Edward Jones offices throughout Tucson and Oro Valley are collecting food and donations to support the Interfaith Community Services food bank.
"We are honored to play a small role in helping people that are going through difficult times and to let them know that the community cares," Blanchard said.
He started the annual event several years ago.
"My minimum goal is 10,000 pounds of food in four hours" throughout the city, Blanchard told a lunch gathering of the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce last week. Go by a food bank, Blanchard said, and you'll realize "the demand is there. The shelves are empty."
At Blanchard's Lambert and La Cañada office in Oro Valley, Caffé Torino Ristorante Italiano is serving a free breakfast to those who donate. Daniela Borella, owner of Caffé Torino, is donating food to support the cause. There'll be activities for the kids, and entertainment, and all 16 offices will have free food for people bringing donations.
Blanchard urged people to bring food to the chamber's breakfast meeting on Oct. 29.
