Sequels Upscale Resale, one of only a few nonprofit women’s boutiques in Tucson, is celebrating its third anniversary.

Sequels is the brainchild of the Amphi Foundation, whose goal is to support the needs of students in all 20 schools within the Amphitheater Unified School District. And support they do. Dr. Roseanne Lopez of the foundation said that, “so far, through Sequels’ contributions to our 2lst Century Classroom Project, we have installed 90 Smart Boards in classrooms throughout the district.”

To celebrate its three successful years, Sequels, located at 7921 N. Oracle Rd. in the Entrada de Oro Shopping Center (797-4949), is hosting a holiday open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. All merchandise is 25 percent off in a before Christmas sale; there will be a silent auction, raffle, informal modeling of some of the latest acquisitions and holiday refreshments from Beyond Bread at its new Ina and Oracle location.

Shoppers can snag great deals while enjoying the warm fuzzy of giving to others with every purchase.

Sequels has been a hit from the beginning. Outgrowing its original digs within a year and a half, the shop moved in 2009 to a larger space in the same shopping center. In addition to staff, there are l5 dedicated volunteers who help with everything from tagging merchandise to restocking to customer service.

Inventory includes brand names such as Chico’s, Talbots, J.Jill, Jones New York and more. Shoppers scoping out styles from vintage to cool classics can find dresses (both casual and after five), separates, shoes and accessories. Word of mouth plus a little advertising in local papers has secured a loyal customer base.

The shop is now so popular that inventory is practically flying out the door. Donations, especially of jewelry, purses and fall/winter merchandise, would be most welcome. Customers who bring a grocery bag of women’s clothing/accessories (never worn or gently used, preferably not more than two years old) to the open house receive a free raffle ticket.

Donations are tax-deductible. Also, for every dollar spent in the shop, a customer gets a point. Once 200 points are reached, the customer is eligible for $l0 off his or her next purchase.

I heard about Sequels over two years ago and have been a regular ever since. In addition to enjoying the ambience of a cozy boutique and avoiding the mall crush, I have found some great deals on sterling silver jewelry, a snappy red vest from Coldwater Creek and a zip up hoodie sweatshirt with ruched trim, to name but a few.

Sequels motto is “Give us your past and we’ll give you the future.” With the help of generous folks who keep the shop supplied with that 80 percent of stuff in our closets most of us rarely if ever wear, that future will be even brighter, not only for the customers but the students in Amphi School District.

See you Dec. 4.
