Tucson gets praise in biz publication

The publication Business Facilities, a national business magazine for site selectors and corporate real estate professionals, has recognized Tucson in its October 2009 cover story as an editors' choice for cities "that are surviving and thriving during the economic downturn," according to a release from Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities.

The article credits Tucson's "strong base in aerospace / defense manufacturing and solar energy as positioning the region for major growth and development in the future," the release continued.

Editors' picks were based upon locations that drew their attention during the previous months for "quick adjustment to the dramatically changing economic landscape." Editors said emerging sectors like biotechnology and alternative energy are moving to the top of the national agenda. Tucson is recognized for "its quick action to take advantage of this through the Green Jobs Initiative and expanding solar technology sector."

Business Facilities also named Tucson No. 6 on its list of the top 10 metro areas for aerospace/defense manufacturing in its fifth annual ranking report, released in the magazine's August 2009 issue.

"We should all be proud that in just a few short years, the Tucson region is gaining national attention for its business development success," said Joe Snell, TREO president and chief executive officer. "TREO's work with over 40 companies in business attraction and expansion is getting considerable notice for job development and capital investment."
