Marana chamber holiday event at Omni Dec. 16

The Marana Chamber of Commerce holds its special evening of holiday celebration on Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Omni Tucson National Resort.

The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $45/person or $80 per couple. Call 520-682-4314 or pay online at maranachamber.com.

The menu features a special Southwestern buffet and delicious holiday desserts. Music will be provided by Duo Vibrato.

The price includes an entry into the grand prize drawing for a two-night stay and dinner for two at Bob’s Steak and & Chop House.

Gifts and certificates are being accepted for donation to the Holiday House, benefiting the troops, the Arizona National Guard and those who serve with Silverbell Army Heliport.

Registration is requested by Thursday, Dec. 9.

Panda One now open in Oro Valley

Panda One Chinese Restaurant has opened in the Target Shopping Center in Oro Valley, located at 10509 N. Oracle Road, #131.

Panda One offers New England-style Chinese as well as Thai cuisine, a release said.

It serves lunch and dinner Monday through Saturdays. Guests may dine in, call for delivery or carry out.

Panda One is owner Mei Wu’s third Chinese restaurant in Tucson. Mandarin Buffet is located at 5005 S. Campbell, and Panda One sits at 3670 N. Oracle, at Prince.

Panda One is open Monday-Thursday 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10:30-10 p.m.

Shaffer opening dry cleaning in OV location

Twin grand openings are scheduled Nov. 19 and 20 by Shaffer Drycleaning & Laundry, which is launching new stores in Oro Valley and the Catalina Foothills.

The Oro Valley store is located at North Oracle Road and Pusch View Lane. The Foothills location is at River and Craycroft. With the two openings, Shaffer Drycleaning will have 11 locations in greater Tucson.

Bake Shaffer, owner of Shaffer Drycleaning, cites green practices, customer attention and expanded services as reasons for the expansion.

“We are a local, community-based company, and we want to make sure to provide services to customers in the neighborhoods where they live and work,” Shaffer said.

In Oro Valley, a grand opening celebration is set for Saturday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Nadine’s Desert Fashions open in Oro Valley plaza

After three years, Nadine Reed has returned to the Northwest clothing store market, opening Nadine’s Desert Fashions at 11931 N. First Avenue, Suite 141 in Oro Valley.

Nadine’s is located on the southwest corner of Tangerine Road and First Avenue, in the Placita Del Oro Plaza.

Reed is back with her most popular lines, petites, Native American jewelry and her own new designs. Previous employees have joined her in the new venture, and Jeri Udell is the new manager.

Quality and comfortable fashions, from everyday wear to special occasion, are an emphasis, with American-made, easy-to-care-for brands.

“We are all about quality and service, and of course, fun,” Reed said.

The store is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Its phone number is 797-4200.

Walmart has $1.5M to buy food for needy

To fight hunger, Walmart is awarding $1.5 million to communities in need, and Tucson residents can influence part of the spending decision.

The Food Research and Action Center has identified the food hardship rate for the 100 largest communities in America, including Tucson at # 47.

People may log on to Walmart’s Facebook page, click on “End Hunger,” then click on “Like a Community” and click on “Like Tucson, Arizona.” The community with the most votes receives $1 million, a release said. The next five most supported communities each receive $100,000.

Walmart has made a commitment to donate $2 billion by 2015 to the fight against hunger in America.
