Waste Management said Monday it has acquired Pima Waste, Desert Dwellers Disposal and Arizona City Trash Service, companies that provide trash and recyclables hauling service in areas of Northwest Tucson and Pinal County.

The transaction took effect Dec. 31. Waste Management began providing trash and recycling services to some 8,000 customers of the three companies as of Jan. 2.

"I chose Waste Management because I value the company's leadership position in Tucson and in the industry, as well as its commitment to environmental sustainability," Pima Waste owner Bill Killian said in a release. "I am grateful for my employees' and customers' support over the years, and I am confident that Waste Management is capable of providing our community with high quality service and sustainability solutions for the future."

Waste Management is offering weekly recycling services to the firms' existing recycle customers, according to spokeswoman Melissa Quillard. There are "no plans for pricing changes," she said Monday. Pima Waste has been using Waste Management transfer stations for the majority of its waste disposal, Quillard said.

Aubrey Waingrow, district manager for Waste Management in Tucson, said there has been no interruption in service for customers.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to expand our service in this community, and we look forward to being part of the sustainability solution in this area," he added. "As the largest residential recycler in North America and an innovator in other aspects of sustainability, Waste Management is well positioned to serve this area for the long term."

Waste Management has 980 Arizona employees serving nearly 500,000 customers. It is based in Houston. For more information, go to www.wmofarizona.com.
