A Tucson outdoor equipment retailer has been nominated as one of 10 national finalists as an outstanding outdoors business.

The Summit Hut was lauded by readers of Backpacker magazine and SNEWS, an outdoor industry news organization. More than 100 stores received nominations.

Summit Hut owner Dave Baker opened his first store 40 years across the street from Catalina High School, where he was a senior. The business has been supportive of local outdoor organizations, including the Sky Island Alliance, Pima Trails Association and the Southern Arizona Paddlers Club.

“Summit Hut’s goal is to be an encouraging and involved member of the outdoor community and Tucson as a whole,” Baker said.

Summit Hut is located on Speedway at Rosemont, and on Wetmore at First Avenue.
