Waste Management of Arizona has received the prestigious Summit Award, an internal company award that recognizes high-performing market areas, a release said.

Arizona won for "best overall performer" in the company's Western Group for 2008.

"We are thrilled to receive this award," said Dan Vermeer, area vice president. "This achievement is a clear testament to our talented employees, especially amid the current economic conditions."

Results are determined on several factors, including customer satisfaction surveys, productivity and efficiency milestones. WMAZ also received the award in 2003, 2005, and 2006. Larry O'Donnell, president and chief operating officer of Waste Management, is presenting the award during a Wednesday ceremony in Tucson.

Waste Management and its 980 Arizona employees provide waste and recycling services to nearly 500,000 customers throughout Arizona. For more information, go to www.wmofarizona.com.
