Marana approves 4 liquor licenses, hears money concern from mayor

Four liquor licenses – two of them for Walgreen's locations – were approved without dissent by the Marana Town Council on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

The drug store chain had asked for new Series 10 beer and wine store liquor licenses at two Marana locations, 3800 W. Ina and 7800 N. Cortaro.

Special event liquor licenses were approved for the PGA Tour, on behalf of the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Dove Mountain for the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play championship golf tournament, and for Copper Baseball Club on behalf of the Mike Jacob Sports Park. The latter applications are intended to help raise funds for youth baseball.

Last week, the council also learned from Mayor Ed Honea about a "summit" held among leaders of Marana town, school, health, emergency services and business institutions. "We talked about the financial status of our state, and how all of us are going to be affected this next year," Honea said. The meeting was intended to "eliminate redundancies, save some money and manpower."

"Next year is probably going to be the worst financial year on record in the state of Arizona," Honea said. "It will affect us immensely."
