SAHBA PAC sets its list of endorsements

The Southern Arizona Home Builders Association political action committee has announced its endorsements in the Aug. 24 primary.

Statewide, the organization endorses Gov. Jan Brewer; Ken Bennett for secretary of state; Tom Horne for attorney general; Doug Ducey for treasurer; and Gary Pierce and Brenda Burns for the Arizona Corporations Commission. All are Republicans.

Locally, it endorses Gail Griffin for Arizona Senate District 25 and Al Melvin in District 26. Both are Republicans.

In the House races, the SAHBA PAC suggests David Stevens in District 25, and Vic Williams and Terri Proud in District 26. All are Republicans.

“It is important that candidates are elected who are committed to getting our economy back on track and the home building industry back to work,” the PAC said in a release. “It is also very important to help get candidates elected by encouraging your family and friends to vote, putting up a yard sign in your lawn, making a campaign contribution or going door-to-door for candidates in your district.”

Hughes tops $500 million in total assets

Hughes Federal Credit Union has surpassed $500 million in assets, it said in a release.

As of July 31, the Tucson-based credit union totaled $503.66 million in assets, an increase of $31 million — 7.5 percent — from a year ago.

Robert Swick, president and general manager, attributed the increase to member share deposit growth and expanded eligibility for membership.

“The $500 million asset mark is viewed as a major growth milestone in the not-for-profit credit union industry,” Swick explained. “We think it also demonstrates the trust and confidence our members have in our organization.”

The credit union currently has more than 54,000 members and seven locations in Tucson. It is locally owned and operated by its members.
