Backpacker magazine is coming to Tucson with its annual Get Out More Tour on Thursday, Aug. 28, offering Tucsonans “in-depth outdoors advice from seasoned experts,” a release said.
The Get Out More Tour, free to the public, starts at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Summit Hut, a locally owned outdoor specialty products retailer at 5045 E. Speedway at Rosemont.
“It’s exciting to connect with and learn from both local outdoor enthusiasts and the Get Out More experts,” said Dave Baker, owner of Summit Hut, where the event will take place. Baker said the tour will “celebrate” Tucson’s connections with the outdoors.
The 60-minute presentation ranges from how to plan an outdoor adventure and choosing the right gear for your trip, to survival skills and backcountry navigation tips.
Event speakers Randy and Sheri Propster have worked for the Department of Defense as outdoor recreation specialists, and have been on multiple 200-plus day backpacking trips. The couple hiked the American Discovery Trail in 253 days as their honeymoon, earning themselves the nickname, “The Honeymooners.”
