Steven Washburn, president and owner of Washburn Custom Builders, has been elected 2009 chairman of the board of the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association.

Washburn, a local builder since 1986, also represents SAHBA in Washington, D.C., as a National Association of Home Builders national director.

Washburn is an award-winning SAHBA Certified Custom Builder who also serves on the SAHBA executive committee, technical committee, and political action committee.

As an EPA Energy Star builder, Washburn advocates “green build” products and technologies, a release said. His practices have earned the City of Tucson’s Home Energy Efficiency Award, the SAHBA Custom Home Builder of the Year Award, and the Custom Home Pacesetter Innovation Award.

Washburn holds a bachelor’s degree in Latin American studies from the University of Arizona, with an Eller College certificate in international business.

His community service ranges from Hurricane Katrina relief and Agua Prieta family shelter construction to supporting First Southern Christian School, Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church, Immaculate Heart Middle School, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, and the Hogar Paz Y Bien Orphanage in Mexico.

Washburn succeeds Randy Agron of A.F. Sterling Home Builders, whose one-year term expired.
