Dollar Tree opens an Oro Valley store

Dollar Tree, Inc., the nation's largest discount variety store chain selling everything for $1 or less, has opened a new store in Oro Valley.

The business is located at 10805 N. Oracle Rd., just north of First Avenue.

"Dollar Tree continues to grow and is proud to be part of the Oro Valley community," said Chelle Davis, Dollar Tree spokeswoman.

The store is open seven days a week.

Dollar Tree, a Fortune 500 company, is headquartered in Chesapeake, Va. It has more than 3,600 stores in 48 states.

Firm to offer mid-year real estate report

Tucson Realty and Trust Co., is conducting its commercial real estate comprehensive 2009 mid-year report and year-end forecast this Wednesday, July 15.

Its title – "It's brutal out there, and we're not talking about the summer heat."

A panel of commercial real estate professionals is offering a "brief but complete" review of real estate activity in the first six months of 2009, and plans to discuss what to expect in the year's second half.

Healing touch practitioner opens NW office

A healing touch practitioner has opened her business in the Northwest.

Brenda Bollard is operating Relax and Heal at 231 W. Giaconda Way, near Ina and Oracle roads. The practice is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 7, and by appointment on Sunday. The phone number is 327-5441.

Bollard is currently a Healing Touch practitioner apprentice in a training program offered by Healing Touch International. She is eligible for certification in October.

"After more than 20 years as owner and operator of a cabinet building and drafting business in Tucson, I was ready for a change," Bollard said. "Relax and Heal enables me to make a real difference in people's lives by using gentle Healing Touch to reduce stress, restore balance, and promote a person's natural ability to heal."

OV restaurant and insurance firm to aid charity

An Oro Valley restaurant is donating proceeds from meals and drinks to the March of Dimes this Thursday, July 16.

The Loop Taste of Chicago Restaurant, 10180 N. Oracle Road, is running the special in conjunction with Farmers Insurance, a release said.

Proceeds from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday sales are being directed to the March of Dimes, which combats birth defects and promotes prenatal care.

Special fest at farmers markets this weekend

Summer's flavors are being celebrated at farmers' markets in Oro Valley and Tucson this Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19.

The Garlic, Tomato and Basil Festival opens at the Oro Valley Farmers' Market, on the campus of the Town of Oro Valley, on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. It continues on Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tucson Farmers' Market, at St. Philip's Plaza located at River and Campbell.

Demonstrations start at 10 a.m. Saturday. Iron Chef winner Romero Scavo of Harvest is shopping the Oro Valley Farmers' Market to do a chef's improvisation, preparing a basil, garlic and tomato recipe for people to sample, or try at home.

Attorney's duo honored for contributions

The State Bar of Arizona has honored two Pima Country Attorney's Office employees for their efforts in the courtroom and community.

Barbara LaWall, Pima County attorney, and Chris Straub, chief civil deputy, were presented their awards on June 26.

LaWall received the 2009 Michael C. Cudahy Criminal Justice Award, given to the criminal law prosecutor who, throughout their career, works to advance the principles of criminal justice "by representing the public's interest with integrity, fairness, tenacity, creativity, brilliance and professionalism," a release said.

Straub received the 2009 Distinguished Public Lawyer Award, recognizing "the work and dedication of outstanding public lawyers who exhibit a dedication and commitment to public service and the practice of law."
