January is the season of shows returning from mid-season hiatuses and season premieres. These are a few of my favorite:
Dance Moms- Finally! The Season 2 premiere of the controversial and addicting Lifetime phenomenon! The series follows the ‘Toddlers & Tiaras' path, going for shock value while chronicling the lives of a group of pre-pubescent, yet extraordinary dancers and their mothers. This season kicks off with the introduction of a new girl, Kendall. Will she fit in? Can she match the other girls in talent? Will her overbearing mother stir up trouble? They know how to keep us hooked.
Grey's Anatomy- The show, now in the second half of it's second season, returns with an emotional follow-up to the mid-season premiere. Conjoined twins, Teddy grieving her late husband, lots (I mean LOTS) of crying- what more can you ask of the dramatic doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital?
30 Rock- The Rapture is upon us and weird things are happening at TGS. Liz Lemon is apparently on drugs, Jenna is killing children's dreams on an American Idol parody show, and Jack has a heart... for a while, anyways. It's not the best work 30 Rock has done, but its not bad.
Modern Family- Phil, the metro-sexual realtor, tries to put on a big seminar for first-time homeowners and enlists the help of Gloria, his step-mother-in-law. Claire, Phil's competitive wife, and her dad, Gloria's Husband, compete through their children in an egg-dropping project for school. The constant reminders of the importance of family are this episodes only redeeming trait. I'm a big Modern Family fan, but this was one of the weaker episodes.
Stay tuned for next week.
