Pima Animal Care Center, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, has suspended its animal intake and is not accepting animals from the public.
To help meet this critical community need, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona has set up emergency accommodations at its Companions for Life Center, 3465 E. Kleindale, in order to accept dogs and cats in need of shelter. Anyone bringing an animal to the HSSA will be required to pay the regular animal care fee. The HSSA's temporary intake center will be open during regular business hours, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
The HSSA is not animal control, however, and cannot accept any aggressive animals, per our normal policy. Pima Animal Care is still responsible for public safety and will be operating in that capacity. If you have a problem with an aggressive animal, you must call PACC at 243-5900.
If you are a pet owner who had planned to relinquish your animal to PACC, please hold on to your animal until PACC is able to reopen for intake.
Once this crisis is over, the HSSA and PACC will continue working together to ensure the best possible outcome for all the animals in our care.
If you are thinking of adopting a pet, now is the time! The HSSA is waiving adoption fees on all its animals tomorrow. Please come to the HSSA to find a new best friend.
If you would like to help the HSSA in this endeavor, please consider making a donation or gathering supplies such as towels and canned food for the animals in our care. You can donate at hssaz.org/donate or get more information on helping the HSSA through volunteering and fostering at hssaz.org. The HSSA is an independent nonprofit organization supported 100 percent by community donations.
