The Arizona Distance Classic is aiming to do more than just get people fit. The Arizona Distance Classic has teamed up with a local elementary school to raise funds for the Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Foundation.
Green was one of six people killed on Jan. 8, 2011 where Jared Loughner opened fire at a Safeway parking lot during a Congress on Your Corner event with former Congresswoman Gabreille Giffords.
Green was the youngest of the victims, and in the two years since her death, her family and friends have worked hard to carry on her memory through community service. The Foundation focuses on continuing Green’s hopes and dreams of the future, which included helping those less fortunate than herself.
In its second year, the Christina-Taylor Green Foundation continues to aim at helping local schoolchildren who are in need. To learn more about grant opportunities and the accomplishments of the foundation, visit the website at www.christina-taylorgreen.org.
After hearing about the Arizona Distance Classic, Mesa Verde Elementary School teachers Colleen Hehli and Beathany Papajohn decided to build a team to run and cheer in the 2013 Arizona Distances Classic on March 24. While participating, the pair of teachers are also focusing on raising money for the Christian-Taylor Green Foundation.
To assist their efforts to raise funds, organizers of the Arizona Distance Classic have agreed to donate $5 directly to the foundation for every member of the Mesa Verde Christina-Taylor Green Foundation team that registers for any ADC distance event.
