Welcome to the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Arizona Distance Classic Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and Splendido 5K Presented By Northwest Medical Center, hosted by Ventana Medical Systems and in partnership with the Town of Oro Valley and All About Running And Walking.

The Arizona Distance Classic has grown over the years to become the ultimate spring celebration of the active and healthy lifestyle, right here in the world-class Town of Oro Valley. We are proud that this year’s race will once again benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training Program.

Since we first created the event in 2005, the focus of the Arizona Distance Classic has been on the celebration and the participation of the runners and walkers who take part each year. This boutique race has evolved into a regional and national event with participants from more than 40 states and several nations.

Our mission is to provide the ultimate experience for our runners and walkers, partners and the community. The Town of Oro Valley rolls out the red carpet each year and you will feel that warm welcome in the shops, hotels and restaurants throughout town.

From the time you pick up your packet to when you cross the finish line, our goal is also to make your race enjoyable and memorable. You made the commitment and put in the work. It’s our job to deliver an unparalleled race experience.

We could not produce the Arizona Distance Classic each year without the support of our great partners. The event is presented by Northwest Medical Center. The Town of Oro Valley and Mayor Satish Hiremath provide tremendous support. The Explorer News is our print media sponsor and provides great promotional support. Ventana Medical Systems again hosts the event, while All About Running and Walking and owner John Corbett have been with us since the very beginning.

The Arizona Distance Classic would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteers who donate countless hours to guarantee your success on race day.

This year we are proud to have Beth Ernst, life enrichment manager for Splendido, serve as Honorary Race Director. Ernst provides fitness consultation, wellness education and classes for residents of Splendido, an all-inclusive community for adults age 55 and better.

The Town of Oro Valley Parks and Recreation Department will again host the Kids Fun Run for children 14 years and younger. The partnership promotes early adoption of the healthy active lifestyle to younger generations, and many of the kids who have taken part in the Fun Run over the years now enjoy the event’s bigger races.

The Arizona Distance Classic once again benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training program. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.

Thank you for joining us for the 10th Anniversary of the Arizona Distance Classic. I look forward to seeing you at the start line and giving you a high-five at the finish line.

(Editor’s Note: David Babner is the Arizona Distance Classic Race Director.)
