On March 16 around 8:10 a.m., units from the Avra Valley Fire District responded to the area of Trico and Trico-Marana road for a report of a hot air balloon colliding into power lines in the area.

Upon arrival to the scene, we found one hot air balloon hanging from the high voltage lines on the east side of Trico Road. There were a total of eight passengers, and one balloon operator in the balloon at the time of the incident.

When the hot air balloon impacted the high voltage lines, the sparks generated from the impact ignited parts of the balloon causing the melting pieces of the balloon to fall down on the passengers in the basket. The melting pieces of the balloon caused minor burns to the passengers in the basket.

Six passengers and the balloon operator refused medical treatment, but two patients were transported to Northwest Medical Center for minor burns and bruises. Both patients transported to the hospital are in stable condition.
