The Marana Police Department and the Marana Unified School District are proud to announce the return of the School Resource Officer Program.  The Marana High School and the Marana Middle School now have an officer on campus full time.  Officer Mario Williams will be assigned to the Marana High School, and Officer Melissa Larkin will be assigned to the Marana Middle School.

The School Resource Officers (SRO’s) will serve several important roles.  The officers will handle any police related calls for service, serve as a deterrent, as well as provide security for the students and staff.  In addition, officers will assist with teaching Criminal Justice related classes to the students.  The program will also important for community relations, because it helps improve relationships with students, staff, and parents.

The return of the School Resource Program was made possible by a grant from the Arizona Department of Education.  This will be the first time since 2008 the Marana Police Department has had SRO’s in the schools.
